"In it for the Tech"

Design:
This was created with generative design - a process of setting up boundary conditions for the model (i.e. load cases, geometries constraints, safety factor, etc), and letting the computer generate a number of outcomes that satisfy all conditions with as little material as possible. It is iterative process of compute-intensive calculations that results in highly organic looking geometries. Geek out here.

Manufacture & Material:
This design is produced using additive manufacturing. 3D printed in Nylon using Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), a process that requires no support structure during print, so it can produce complex geometries that are impossible with other methods.

The resulting prints has strong mechanical properties, with rough matt surfaces, giving the generative design bone like appearances.

"In it for the Art"

Design:
The gentle cradle in the centre creates an illusion of softness through geometry, as if the brass pill is sinking into the stone.  The simple form helps to accentuate the material's natural texture.

Manufacture & Material:
The production of this design requires more specialist CNC machines that can accurately carve out stones with water cooling system.

Travertine’s subtle veining and porous holes adds texture without causing too much distraction, so that you can concentrate on trading monkey coins.
