Would we support the physical production of these designs forever and ever and ever?
Short answer: No, #Rug.
Long answer: We hope to for many decades, but chances are we will not be here forever. Therefore, the asset data stored on Arweave are key to enable the reproduction of these designs. The core idea is that you own the provenance of the design and the context of its manifestation. We believe that the digital token is the true original, and it is where the collector value lies.
Then what happens when Hash Inc. no longer make the physicals?
In our eventual and inevitable demise, we hope technology would have come far enough to enable easily accessible local manufacturing. We envision that even the manufacture process can be decentralised (we have seen examples of this working in licensed reproductions). It will be important to build out a network of manufacturers and support, so that owners have many options to get these manufactured.
Does every little detail need to be exactly the same to be an authentic physical?
That's honestly not for us to decide, it is up to the collectors / artist / community. But here are our take: The NFT records the key attributes that are core to the design, this avoids putting too much limitation exact manufacture process - however that will evolve in the future. The specifications details the material, manufacture process and finishes we use in our builds, but we expect makers will fork our methods, and adjust this to their own process and add their flair - as yet another layer of creativity.
